The Gulfcrimson Peach Tree is a dependable, productive peach developed especially for North Florida, southern Georgia and the lower Gulf Coast. It produces large, attractive peaches with firm yellow flesh, good sweetness and a deep red blush covering most of the fruit.
Gulfcrimson is especially valued for its reliable cropping in North Florida. Its firm, non-melting flesh allows the fruit to remain on the tree longer for better flavor while still holding up well after harvest.

Fruit Characteristics
Gulfcrimson produces round, attractive peaches with a recessed tip. The fruit normally weighs approximately 4–5 ounces under good growing conditions.
The yellow flesh is firm, sweet and slow to brown after the fruit is cut or bruised. Gulfcrimson is a clingstone peach, meaning the flesh remains attached to the pit even when the fruit is fully ripe.
Because the fruit has non-melting flesh, it can remain firm as it ripens and develops its full flavor. This makes Gulfcrimson an excellent choice for fresh eating, roadside markets, U-pick operations and home orchards.
Pollination
Gulfcrimson is self-fertile, so only one tree is needed to produce peaches.
Another peach variety is not required for pollination. However, bees and other pollinating insects help move pollen among the flowers and can improve overall fruit set.
North Florida Growing Note
Gulfcrimson is one of the better peach varieties for North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. It was developed by the cooperative peach-breeding program of the University of Florida, the University of Georgia and the USDA Agricultural Research Service.
The tree requires approximately 400 chill hours and has cropped reliably in North Florida. It is best planted in locations where Flordaking peaches have performed well.
Plant Gulfcrimson in a sunny, well-drained location. Avoid low areas where cold air settles or water remains after heavy rain. Late freezes can damage open flowers and developing fruit even after the tree has received enough winter chill.
Planting and Care
Plant in full sun where the tree will receive at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily.
Peach trees require well-drained soil and will not tolerate consistently wet roots. Sandy soil is suitable as long as the tree receives adequate water and nutrients.
Train the tree to an open-center or vase shape with three to four main scaffold branches. This allows sunlight and air to reach the center of the tree.
Gulfcrimson sets a large number of flower buds and can produce heavy crops. Thin young peaches when they are approximately the size of a nickel, leaving about 6–8 inches between fruit. Proper thinning improves fruit size and helps prevent branches from breaking under a heavy crop.
