Peach Trees – Moderate-Chill Varieties for North Florida & the Lower South

Moderate-chill peach trees are a good choice for many growers in North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and nearby lower-South areas that receive more winter chill than coastal or far-south Florida locations. These peach varieties generally need more chill hours than the very lowest-chill peaches, but they may still perform well in areas with dependable cool winter weather.

This collection includes peach varieties that often fall in the moderate chill range, commonly around 300–525 chill hours, depending on the variety and the source. Moderate-chill peaches can be a nice middle ground for customers who want good fruit quality, strong flavor, and reliable production in areas that are not extremely warm in winter.

For the most dependable peach production, choose a variety with chill hours that match your location. Customers in warmer parts of Florida may want to choose from our Low-Chill Peach Trees collection, while customers in cooler inland areas of North Florida, South Alabama, South Georgia, or similar climates may have more options with moderate-chill varieties.

Most peach trees are self-fruitful, which means one tree can usually produce fruit on its own. However, planting more than one peach variety nearby can help extend the harvest season and may improve overall fruit set. Peach trees grow best in full sun, well-drained soil, and an open location with good air flow.
