Heritage Raspberry is a dependable everbearing variety known for producing flavorful, medium-sized red raspberries with a sweet, slightly tart taste. The firm berries are excellent for fresh eating, jams, preserves, baking, and freezing.

This self-fertile raspberry can produce a summer crop on second-year canes and a later crop on new first-year canes. Heritage develops vigorous, upright canes that may stand without support, although a simple trellis makes harvesting and maintenance easier.

North Florida Growing Note:

Heritage Raspberry is primarily adapted to cooler regions and may be difficult to grow reliably in the heat and humidity of North Florida. Plant it in exceptionally well-drained soil with good air circulation, morning sun, and protection from intense afternoon heat. Mulch the root area to help keep the soil cool, but do not pile mulch against the canes.

For the Florida Panhandle, Heritage is best considered a trial plant rather than a guaranteed commercial fruit crop. Growing it in a large container may make it easier to control drainage, soil quality, and summer heat exposure.

Pruning:

For two possible crops, remove only the second-year canes after they finish producing fruit. Leave the new first-year canes to produce a later crop and fruit again the following season.

For one larger and easier-to-manage fall crop, cut all canes close to the ground during winter dormancy. New canes will emerge and produce fruit later in the growing season.
