Peach Trees Better Suited for Cooler Climates

Some peach tree varieties need more winter chill than many parts of North Florida receive each year. These peaches may grow well as trees, but they may not bloom and fruit dependably in mild-winter areas unless the chill requirement is met.

They may still be of interest to collectors, experienced growers, or customers in colder parts of the Southeast, but they should be chosen carefully for North Florida landscapes.

If you are planting peaches in North Florida and want the best chance of fruit, our low-chill peach collection may be the better place to start.

Peach trees grow best in full sun with well-drained soil and regular pruning. Most are self-fertile, but planting more than one variety may improve fruit set and extend the harvest season.
