Florida Home Pear

The Florida Home Pear is a vigorous, reliable variety that thrives in warm climates and produces abundant crops of large, juicy fruit. Its pears are big, semi-sweet, and very juicy, excellent for fresh eating, canning, and preserves. The fruit typically ripens in late July through August, making it a productive mid- to late-summer variety.

This pear is self-fertile, meaning it will bear fruit on its own, but it performs best when planted near another pear variety for cross-pollination. It pairs especially well with Hood, Pineapple, or Baldwin Pears for heavier yields.

The Florida Home Pear tree is a strong grower, reaching about 15–20 feet tall at maturity, with an attractive canopy that adds beauty to the landscape. Its adaptability to southern conditions and low-chill requirement make it a top choice for growers in warmer regions.

The Florida Home Pear produces large, rounded pears with smooth, greenish-yellow skin that sometimes develops a light blush as it ripens. The flesh is juicy, tender, and semi-sweet, offering a refreshing flavor that balances sweetness with a mild crispness. The texture is slightly firmer than soft European pears, giving it excellent versatility.

This pear is delicious for fresh eating straight off the tree, but it also holds up well for canning, preserves, and baking, making it a favorite for home orchards. Fruits ripen in late July through August, providing a reliable mid-to-late summer harvest in warm southern climates.
