This collection includes apple tree varieties that are generally better suited for cooler climates or higher chill-hour areas. While these are good apple varieties, they may not be the best choice for planting in North Florida because they often need more winter chill than our area can reliably provide.

If you are planting in North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, or a similar low-chill climate, we usually recommend choosing low-chill apple varieties such as Anna, Dorsett Golden, TropicSweet, or other apples known to perform better in warm Southern climates.

These apple trees may be a better fit for customers ordering bare root trees for other states or cooler growing regions where the chill-hour requirements match the variety.

Please check the USDA zone, chill-hour needs, harvest season, and pollination notes for each variety before ordering. Some apple varieties, such as Jonagold, Winesap, Mutsu/Crispin, and Arkansas Black, may also require special pollination planning because they are triploid or poor-pollen apples and should not be used as pollinators for other apple trees.

Important Note:

These apple trees are not listed here because they are bad varieties. They are listed here because they are usually not the best choice for reliable fruit production in North Florida

.North Florida Growing Note:
This apple variety may be better suited for areas with more reliable winter chill than many parts of North Florida. In our area, fruit production may vary from year to year depending on winter chill, bloom timing, late freezes, and pollination. For the most dependable apple choices in North Florida, we usually recommend proven low-chill varieties such as Anna, Dorsett Golden, TropicSweet, Shell Apple, and Ein Shemer.
