Buy Chinese Jujube Trees for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Chinese Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), often called Chinese Date, is a tough, productive fruit tree valued for its crisp sweet fruit, exceptional heat tolerance, drought tolerance, and adaptability to Southern growing conditions.

Jujube fruit begins green and gradually develops reddish-brown to mahogany coloring as it ripens. Fresh fruit has a crisp texture similar to an apple or Asian pear, while fully ripened and dried fruit develops a sweeter, date-like texture and flavor.

Chinese Jujube is an excellent specialty fruit tree for North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, home orchards, edible landscapes, and food forests.

North Florida Growing Note:

Chinese Jujube is a very good fruit-tree choice for North Florida and the Florida Panhandle.

Jujube trees tolerate hot summers extremely well and become highly drought tolerant once established. They also leaf out and flower later than many traditional deciduous fruit trees, helping them avoid some late-winter freeze problems.

UF/IFAS reports that several Chinese Jujube cultivars have successfully produced fruit in Florida.

For the best results, plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Avoid locations where the root system remains continuously waterlogged.

Pollination Recommendation:

Pollination varies among named jujube cultivars.

Some cultivars can produce fruit alone, while others benefit considerably from cross-pollination.

For customers primarily interested in dependable fruit production, we recommend planting two genetically different jujube cultivars with overlapping bloom periods whenever space allows.

Fruit & Harvest Note:

Jujube fruit may be enjoyed at several stages of ripeness.

For crisp fresh eating, harvest when the fruit is firm and beginning to develop reddish-brown coloring.

As the fruit ripens further, it becomes sweeter. Fully ripened fruit can also be dried, producing the date-like texture that gives jujube its common name Chinese Date.

Growing Chinese Jujube:

Plant in full sun for maximum flowering and fruit production.

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, Chinese Jujube is notably tolerant of drought, heat, and a wide range of growing conditions.

Trees may produce root suckers, which can be removed as needed to maintain a clean single-tree form.
