The Titan Blueberry is a vigorous Rabbiteye blueberry developed by the University of Georgia and named for its exceptionally large fruit. Its berries frequently weigh more than 3 grams each, making Titan one of the largest-fruited Rabbiteye blueberry varieties available.

The firm, flavorful berries have good color and a small, dry picking scar. They can remain on the bush for a short time after turning blue, allowing them to continue increasing in size as they finish ripening.

Titan has an upright growth habit with a relatively narrow crown. It is a productive choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, pick-your-own plantings, and growers who want an impressive blueberry that is easy to hand-pick.

POLLINATION REQUIREMENTS

Titan is not considered reliably self-pollinating. Plant it with at least one different Rabbiteye blueberry that blooms at approximately the same time for dependable fruit set and good production.

Do not use a Southern highbush blueberry as Titan’s only pollinator. Titan should be paired with another Rabbiteye variety.

Vernon is the traditional recommended companion for Titan. Krewer is another excellent choice because it was introduced as a large-fruited companion variety for Titan.

Plant compatible varieties within approximately 20 to 50 feet of one another so bees can easily move between the flowers. Planting two or more different Rabbiteye varieties can improve fruit set and provide a more dependable harvest.

NORTH FLORIDA GROWING NOTE

Titan is a good blueberry choice for the Florida Panhandle and nearby areas of South Alabama that receive enough winter chilling to meet its estimated 500-to-550-hour requirement.

Plant Titan in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil. Blueberries have shallow root systems and benefit from pine bark, pine straw, or another acidic organic mulch. Mulching helps retain moisture, control weeds, and protect the shallow roots from summer heat.

Keep the soil consistently moist while plants are becoming established and while berries are developing. Avoid planting in an area where water remains around the roots.

Titan’s exceptionally large berries may crack following heavy rain during ripening. Maintain consistent soil moisture and harvest fully ripe berries promptly when extended wet weather is expected.
