Buy Tam Kam Persimmon Trees for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Tam Kam Persimmon is a sweet, productive non-astringent Asian persimmon prized for its large, attractive deep-orange fruit. Unlike astringent persimmons that must become very soft before eating, Tam Kam can be enjoyed while the fruit is still firm and crisp, similar to a Fuyu persimmon. The flavor is exceptionally sweet, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating.

Tam Kam originated in Korea and produces flattened, lobed, deep-orange fruit on an attractive medium-sized tree. Its name is commonly translated as “very sweet,” which is an excellent description of the ripe fruit. The tree is known for good fruit set and productive crops.

The fruit can be sliced and eaten fresh while crisp, allowed to soften for an even richer texture, added to salads and fruit trays, or dried for a naturally sweet snack. Tam Kam also develops attractive orange fall foliage, giving the tree ornamental value in addition to its edible crop.

North Florida Growing Note: Tam Kam Persimmon is well suited to North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. UF/IFAS reports that Japanese persimmons grow and fruit especially well in Central and North Florida, where they can produce high yields of good-quality fruit. Tam Kam's additional cold tolerance makes it an especially interesting non-astringent persimmon for our region.

For best growth and fruit production, plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Japanese persimmons tolerate short periods of drought once established but perform best with regular moisture.

Plant Details:

  • Plant Type: Deciduous fruit tree
  • Botanical Name: Diospyros kaki ‘Tam Kam’
  • Fruit Type: Asian / Japanese persimmon

  • Sun: Full sun
  • USDA Zones: Approximately Zones 6–9

  • Fruit: Large, flattened to slightly lobed, deep-orange fruit
  • Fruit Size: Often around 6 ounces under good growing conditions

  • Astringency: Non-astringent — can be eaten while firm
  • Uses: Fresh eating, slicing, salads, fruit trays, drying, baking, and edible landscapes
  • Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil; neutral to slightly acidic soil is preferred
  • Water: Regular moisture while establishing; established trees have some drought tolerance
  • Landscape Uses: Home orchard, edible landscape, specimen fruit tree, and fall-interest tree

Pollination: Tam Kam Persimmon is self-fertile, so only one tree is needed to produce fruit. A second persimmon tree is not required for pollination or fruit production.

Best Pollinator Partners: None required. Tam Kam can produce fruit by itself. If customers want to plant additional Asian persimmons such as Fuyu, Jiro, or other varieties, they may certainly do so for additional varieties and an extended harvest, but another tree should not be sold as necessary for Tam Kam to bear fruit. Japanese persimmons are capable of producing fruit without planting multiple trees.
