Summit Muscadine is a productive bronze variety that develops an attractive pink to reddish blush as the fruit ripens. Its large fruit, dependable production, and good fresh-eating quality make it an excellent choice for backyard trellises, home orchards, U-pick plantings, and local fresh-fruit markets.
Summit is similar in appearance to Fry, but the fruit is usually slightly smaller and pinker in color. Summit generally produces more dependably, has better resistance to berry rot, and develops a drier picking scar than Fry.
This vigorous Southern fruiting vine is well suited to the heat and humidity of North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and the Gulf Coast.
Important Pollination Information
Summit is a female-flowered muscadine and is not self-fertile. It must be planted near a self-fertile muscadine variety to produce fruit.
Good pollinator choices from our muscadine selection include:

A bronze or dark-fruited self-fertile muscadine can pollinate Summit. Fruit color does not affect pollination.
Summit cannot pollinate another female variety such as Scuppernong, Jumbo, Scarlett, or Fry.

Fruit and Harvest Note
Summit is recommended as a main-season bronze muscadine for fresh eating. The large berries have an attractive bronze color that often develops a noticeable pink blush when fully ripe.
The fruit generally ripens more evenly and has a drier picking scar than many traditional bronze muscadines. A drier scar means less juice leaks from the berry when it separates from the stem, helping the freshly picked fruit remain cleaner and easier to handle.
Summit also tends to resist berry rot better than Fry, although good air circulation and prompt harvesting remain important during prolonged rainy or humid weather.
North Florida Growing Note
Plant Summit in full sun where the soil drains quickly following heavy rainfall. Avoid low areas where water remains around the roots.
Summit is a vigorous vine and requires a strong, permanent trellis. Allow approximately 20 feet of trellis space for each mature vine.
Annual dormant pruning helps control the vine, improve air circulation, and encourage productive new fruiting growth. In North Florida, muscadines are generally pruned during February or early March before vigorous spring growth begins.
Remove old fruit stems and crowded growth during pruning to help reduce disease pressure.
