STRAWBERRY SUNDAE  Panicle hydrangeas need at least four hours of bright sun, or filtered light all day, for the strongest stems. In shaded conditions, they will stretch toward the light, which leads to weak, spindly growth. It can reach a heiht of 7 to 15 ft usually. Panicles  long-lasting flowers persist well into the fall, extending the beauty of your garden Panicle hydrangeas bloom on new wood (the current season's growth) each year, so in late winter or early spring just as the new growth appears, prune for better branching and overall shape and to encourage new growth. Larger varieties can be kept compact by pruning; this can produce larger, if fewer, flowers.
