– Sold OutNesbitt Muscadine is a dependable, self-fertile variety that produces large, dark purple to nearly black fruit with a sweet, rich, and excellent muscadine flavor when fully ripe.
Its extended harvest season makes Nesbitt especially appealing for home gardens and U-pick plantings. Rather than ripening all at once, the berries mature gradually from the middle through the later part of muscadine season, giving you more time to enjoy freshly picked fruit.
Nesbitt is well suited to the heat and humidity of North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and the Gulf Coast.
Pollination Information
Nesbitt is self-fertile. One vine can produce fruit without another muscadine variety nearby.
Because it produces functional pollen, Nesbitt can also pollinate female muscadine varieties, including:
• Scuppernong
• Jumbo
• Scarlett
• Fry
Fruit color does not affect pollination. A dark-fruited self-fertile muscadine can pollinate bronze, red, pink, purple, or black female varieties when their bloom periods overlap.

Fruit and Harvest Note
Nesbitt does not usually ripen its entire crop at the same time. The extended harvest is helpful for families who want fresh muscadines over a longer period, but the vine may need to be picked several times during the season.
For the best flavor, allow the berries to become fully ripe before harvesting. The fruit has a fairly tough skin but excellent flavor when properly ripened.
North Florida Growing Note
Plant Nesbitt in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Avoid low areas where water remains after heavy rainfall.
Nesbitt develops into a healthy, vigorous vine and needs a strong, permanent trellis. Annual dormant pruning keeps the vine manageable and encourages productive new growth.
In North Florida, muscadines are generally pruned during February or early March before vigorous spring growth begins.
