NATIVE AZALEA HIGH TIDE

High Tide Native Azalea is a selection of the coastal native azalea, botanically known as Rhododendron atlanticum. It is valued for its fragrant white spring flowers, compact size, and excellent performance in the Southeastern U.S., including North Florida and the Panhandle.

Key Characteristics

  • Type: Deciduous native azalea

  • Mature Height: 3–5 ft

  • Width: 3–5 ft

  • Bloom Time: Early–mid spring

  • Flower Color: White to pale pink with a yellow blotch

  • Fragrance: Very fragrant

  • Sun: Part sun to light shade

  • Zones: 6–9

Landscape Uses

  • Native woodland gardens

  • Naturalized plantings

  • Pollinator gardens

  • Works well along edges of woods or filtered shade areas

Growing Notes

  • Prefers acidic, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.

  • Handles more sun than many azaleas if soil stays moist.

  • Native to coastal plains from Georgia through the Carolinas, so it does well in climates similar to Defuniak Springs and the Florida Panhandle.

Wildlife & Pollinators

  • Attracts native bees and butterflies.

  • Fragrant blooms are very attractive to pollinators in early spring.
