Green Ashe Tree Fraxinus pennsylvanica  NATIVE This tree, also known as the “Swamp Ash” or “Water Ash”, is considered to be a variety of red ash and is the most widespread native ash. It has a rounded or irregular crown. The green ash commonly grows 50’ to 70’, with a canopy of 30’ to 40’ and a diameter of 1 ½ ‘ and is fast growing. It is commonly used as an ornamental and can be planted in moist to adverse conditions. It is an excellent timber source. It is a fast-growing tree and due to its good form and resistance to insects and disease, it is a very popular ornamental tree.   It is also a favorite tree used in city and yard landscapes. They are relatively fast-growing trees, adding at least 2 feet per year and growing to as much as 25 feet in 10 years. It has leaves that turn a golden yellow in the fall. Can be grown in fertile moist soils. It is deer resistant and is native to North America.

Historically, the green ash has been designated as the Eisenhower Green Ash Tree- a living memorial to the Heroes of World War II.
