Buy Vermillionaire® Cigar Plants for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Vermillionaire® Cigar Plant is an outstanding long-blooming flowering plant covered with masses of slender orange-red and yellow tubular flowers. It blooms from planting through frost and is especially valuable for attracting hummingbirds to the garden. It performs beautifully in the heat and humidity of the Florida Panhandle and works well in flower beds, borders, mass plantings, and containers.

Once established, Vermillionaire® is heat and drought tolerant, although regular watering while plants are becoming established will encourage fuller growth and heavier flowering. Deadheading is not necessary, making this an easy-care choice for summer color.

Plant Details:

  • Plant Type: Flowering tender perennial / warm-season annual
  • Botanical Name: Cuphea hybrid
  • Mature Size: Approximately 18–28 inches tall and 12–24 inches wide
  • Sun: Full sun for best flowering
  • USDA Zones: 8a–11b
  • Bloom Time: Spring through frost
  • Flower Color: Orange-red with yellow highlights
  • Pollinator Value: Excellent hummingbird plant
  • Water: Average; water regularly while establishing
  • Soil: Average, well-drained soil
  • Maintenance: Easy; no deadheading required
  • Landscape Uses: Borders, containers, mass plantings, pollinator gardens, and sunny flower beds

North Florida Growing Note: In DeFuniak Springs and surrounding Zone 8b areas, Vermillionaire® can return as a perennial, but winter protection with mulch is helpful during colder weather. Proven Winners recommends leaving the plant uncut through winter and trimming dead or leggy growth after new growth begins in spring.
