Beautyberry a native plant Callicarpa americana L. American Beautyberry: Callicarpa americana.
Fast growing: Grows 3-5 feet tall and wide. Can reach 9 feet in favorable soil conditions. Leaves are in pairs or in threes. Margins are coarsely toothed and bottom of leaf is covered in branched hairs. Flowers are small and pink in dense clusters at the bases of the leaves. Seeds and berries are an important food source for forty species of songbirds and particularly the Bob White quail. Leaves are a favorite for deer.
Used: ornamental shrub planting, borders, and container planting. Berries can be used to make jelly- has a light pink color and flavor is similar to strawberry with the tartness of raspberry.
