If you grow as a tree it can reach 15-30 feet tall. or a thicket-forming shrub to 30 ft. Chinquapin nuts are edible to humans as well as wildlife. They have a sweet flavor and are eaten by many birds and mammals. This tree prefers dry, acidic to neutral, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Use as a small shade tree or to provide food for yourself and wildlife, A single mature tree will produce between 1200-1500 nuts each year.
