Popular types such as Fuyu and Jiro produce sweet, flavorful fruit without the mouth-puckering astringency found in some traditional persimmons. The fruit can be eaten firm like an apple or allowed to soften for an even sweeter flavor.

Persimmon trees are attractive, easy-care fruit trees that grow well in full sun and well-drained soil. Many varieties are self-fruitful and can produce fruit with one tree, although another compatible persimmon nearby may improve fruit production.
