Scarlett Muscadine is an attractive red-fruited variety that produces large muscadines with a beautiful reddish to pink-red color. The colorful fruit and traditional Southern muscadine character make Scarlett an appealing choice for home gardens, edible landscapes, and backyard trellises.

Scarlett is well suited to the heat and humidity of North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and the Gulf Coast. Muscadines perform best in full sun, well-drained soil, and a location with a strong permanent trellis.

Important Pollination Information

Scarlett is a female-flowered muscadine and is not self-fertile. It requires a self-fertile muscadine nearby to provide pollen and produce a dependable fruit crop. Female muscadines do not produce usable pollen.

Good pollinator choices include:

• Cowart
• Carlos
• Nesbitt
• Triumph
• Lane
• Paulk

A black, bronze, or red self-fertile muscadine can pollinate Scarlett. Fruit color does not affect pollination.

Scarlett will not pollinate other female varieties such as Scuppernong, Jumbo, or Fry.

Plant Scarlett in a sunny location where water does not remain after heavy rain. Muscadines can live and produce for many years, so they need a strong, permanent trellis.

Annual dormant pruning helps control the vine and encourages healthy new fruiting growth. In North Florida, pruning is generally completed during winter before vigorous spring growth begins.
