– Sold OutBuy Long Mulberry Trees for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
Long Mulberry is a fast-growing fruit tree prized for its exceptionally long, sweet berries. Also known as Pakistan Mulberry, Shahtoot, Himalayan Mulberry, or King White Mulberry, this unusual fruiting tree produces berries much longer than those of most traditional mulberries.
The fruit commonly reaches approximately 2½–4 inches long, with some fruit growing even longer under favorable conditions. Berries ripen from red to deep purple or nearly black and have a sweet, rich flavor with relatively low acidity. The elongated fruit is excellent for fresh eating and can also be used for jams, jellies, pies, cobblers, juice, syrup, smoothies, wine, and other recipes.
Long Mulberry is vigorous and can develop into a substantial shade and fruit tree if left unpruned. Fortunately, mulberries respond well to pruning, allowing the tree to be maintained at a more manageable height for easier harvesting.
Plant Details:
North Florida Growing Note:
Long Mulberry is a good specialty fruit tree for North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. Morus macroura, including the Pakistan-type long mulberries, is grown successfully in Florida and is well suited to warm climates.
Plant in full sun with well-drained soil for the best growth and fruit production. Young trees may benefit from protection during severe freezes until they are well established.
Because this is a vigorous tree, regular pruning is recommended when easy backyard harvesting is the goal.
Pollination Recommendation:
Long Mulberry is self-fertile, so one tree can produce fruit without another mulberry nearby.
Pruning Recommendation:
Long Mulberry can become a large tree if allowed to grow naturally. Regular pruning after harvest can help maintain a smaller canopy, encourage accessible fruiting growth, and make harvesting much easier.
Fruit & Planting Location Note:
Ripe mulberries can drop fruit beneath the tree. Although Pakistan-type long mulberries are sometimes reported to stain less than other dark mulberries, we still recommend planting away from vehicles, patios, sidewalks, and heavily traveled paved areas.
Birds are also very fond of ripe mulberries, so expect to share some of the crop with local wildlife.
