Krewer Blueberry – Large-Fruited Rabbiteye Blueberry

Krewer is a vigorous rabbiteye blueberry known for producing exceptionally large, firm, sweet berries. Some berries can exceed 3 grams, placing Krewer alongside Titan as one of the largest-fruited rabbiteye blueberries available. The berries hold well on the plant after turning blue, allowing them to develop additional size and sweetness before picking.

Krewer is an excellent choice for home orchards, U-pick farms, edible landscapes, and commercial plantings. The plant has a semi-upright growth habit with a relatively narrow crown, making it easier to manage than some wider-growing rabbiteye varieties.

• Titan: The strongest and officially recommended pollinator partner for Krewer. Both varieties produce exceptionally large berries and have compatible flowering periods.
• Climax — good early-blooming alternative
• Premier — likely to provide useful bloom overlap
• Alapaha or Austin — possible additional partners, but bloom overlap may vary

Plant Krewer and Titan near one another for the best cross-pollination, berry size, and overall production. Do not depend on a Southern Highbush blueberry to pollinate Krewer; choose another rabbiteye blueberry.

North Florida Growing Note

Krewer’s relatively low chill requirement makes it well suited to North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. However, because it flowers early for a rabbiteye, open flowers may need protection during a late winter or early spring freeze.

Plant in full sun with well-drained, acidic soil. Blueberries have shallow roots and benefit from a 2- to 3-inch layer of pine bark or pine-straw mulch. Keep the mulch slightly away from the plant’s main stems. Extension guidance recommends full sun and soil with a pH between approximately 4.5 and 5.2 for good blueberry production.
