Transcendent Crabapple is an old-fashioned fruiting crabapple valued for its beautiful spring flowers and unusually large, colorful fruit. The crabapples can reach close to 2 inches across, making Transcendent one of the larger-fruited edible crabapple varieties.

The fruit develops yellow to golden skin with an attractive pink to red blush. The creamy flesh is juicy, crisp, and pleasantly tart. Transcendent Crabapples can be eaten fresh but are especially well suited for making jelly, preserves, sauces, cider, and other traditional crabapple recipes.

In spring, the tree produces abundant pink-and-white to white blossoms that attract bees and other pollinating insects. Fruit generally ripens from late summer into early fall. Because the fruit does not store particularly well, it is best eaten or processed soon after harvest.

Transcendent is also useful in edible landscapes, homestead orchards, wildlife plantings, and traditional fruit gardens. Birds and other wildlife may make use of fruit left on or beneath the tree.

Published information on its chilling requirement varies considerably, and the variety has also been reported to be highly susceptible to fire blight. North Florida's warm winters and humid growing conditions may make performance less predictable. Customers specifically interested in fruit production should consider locally proven or lower-chill varieties first.

Pollination Note: Transcendent is a triploid variety and should not be purchased specifically to pollinate apple trees. When growing Transcendent for fruit, having two compatible diploid apple or crabapple varieties nearby with overlapping bloom periods provides the best pollination arrangement.
