Purple Formosa is a good option for our North Florida landscape when planted in acidic soil with reliable drainage. Allow room for its mature spread, especially near buildings, walkways, and windows.
Mulch around the root zone to help conserve moisture, keeping mulch away from the stems. Avoid planting too deeply or in locations where water collects.
Prune immediately after spring flowering if shaping or size control is needed. Flower buds develop on older growth, so pruning later in the year can reduce the following spring’s display.
