Ayers Pear (Ayers Sugar Pear)

The Ayers Pear, often called the Ayers Sugar Pear, is a beloved variety known for its exceptional sweetness and rich flavor. The fruit is medium-sized with golden-yellow skin blushed with red, making it both beautiful and delicious. Inside, the juicy, tender flesh lives up to its name — intensely sweet, aromatic, and smooth in texture. This makes Ayers one of the best dessert pears for fresh eating right off the tree.

The tree is self-pollinating, so it will bear fruit on its own, but planting it alongside other pear varieties such as Bartlett, Kieffer, Orient, Pineapple, Wild Pear, or Moonglow will encourage heavier yields. Ayers is a reliable producer, typically ripening in late summer, and begins bearing at a relatively young age.

Reaching a moderate size at maturity, the Ayers Pear thrives in zones 5–8 and requires about 300–400 chill hours, making it adaptable to a wide range of climates.
