ORIENT PEAR - European pears are not self-fertile and require pollination from a tree of another variety with the same bloom period, such as Bartlett, Moonglow, Baldwin, or Kieffer. The Orient pear is highly resistant to fire blight, a serious pear disease. It also has beautiful fall color.

Orient Pear

The Orient Pear is a dependable southern favorite, valued for its large fruit, excellent flavor, and adaptability to warm, humid climates. The fruit is round to apple-shaped, with smooth yellow skin that may develop a light red blush in full sun. Inside, the creamy white flesh is firm, juicy, and mildly sweet, offering a refreshing flavor that makes it perfect for both fresh eating and cooking.

This pear is especially prized for its exceptional resistance to fire blight, a common challenge for pear growers in the South. The tree is vigorous, hardy, and highly productive, delivering consistent crops of large fruit each season. Its firm flesh and mild sweetness make it outstanding for canning, baking, preserves, and sauces, while still enjoyable straight from the tree.

Though partially self-pollinating, Orient Pear will produce heavier harvests when paired with another southern pear such as Southern King, Pineapple, or Baldwin.
