Pink Lemonade Blueberry Plant

Pink Lemonade Blueberry is a beautiful and unusual blueberry variety that produces berries that ripen to a rosy pink instead of the traditional blue. The firm, medium-sized fruit has a pleasantly sweet, mild flavor with light floral notes and is delicious for fresh eating, desserts, or adding color to a fruit bowl.

This variety is especially attractive in edible landscapes. It produces pinkish-white, bell-shaped flowers in spring, glossy green foliage through the growing season, colorful fall leaves, and reddish-brown twigs during winter.

Pink Lemonade is best grown as a specialty backyard and landscape blueberry rather than as a high-yield commercial variety. Its colorful fruit and ornamental appearance make it a conversation piece for North Florida gardens.

Best Pollinator Partners

Pink Lemonade can produce some fruit by itself, but planting it with another early-blooming rabbiteye blueberry should provide better pollination and a more dependable crop.

Good pollinator partners from our blueberry selection include:

• Alapaha Blueberry

Climax, Premier, and Krewer are likely to be among the strongest choices because they begin flowering early. Bloom overlap can vary from year to year depending on winter temperatures.

Avoid relying only on late-season rabbiteye varieties such as Powderblue or Ochlockonee, because their bloom periods may not overlap sufficiently with Pink Lemonade.

For best cross-pollination, plant the two varieties within approximately 50 feet of one another so bees can easily travel between the flowers.

North Florida Growing Note

Pink Lemonade has a relatively low chilling requirement and should receive enough winter chill in much of North Florida and the Florida Panhandle. However, its flower buds may begin opening early after periods of warm winter weather, making the flowers vulnerable to a late freeze.

Plant it in a sunny location with acidic, well-drained soil. Blueberries have shallow roots and benefit from several inches of pine bark, pine straw, or similar organic mulch.

Pink Lemonade is also a good choice for a large container when native soil is not acidic enough. Use a well-draining potting mix made for blueberries, azaleas, or other acid-loving plants.
