Buy Springhigh Blueberry plants for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Developed by the University of Florida, Springhigh is a vigorous Southern highbush blueberry that produces large, sweet berries early in the Florida blueberry season. Its upright growth makes it useful in home orchards, edible landscapes, and berry gardens. advancednurserygrowers.com

Plant Details:

  • Plant Type: Fruiting blueberry shrub
  • Botanical Name: Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Springhigh’
  • Blueberry Type: Southern highbush
  • Mature Size: Approximately 5–7 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide
  • Sun: Full sun
  • USDA Zones: Approximately 8–10
  • Chill Hours: Approximately 200–300 hours
  • Bloom/Harvest: Blooms very early; fruit generally ripens in April into May in Florida, depending on location and weather
  • Fruit: Large, sweet, medium to dark blue berries
  • Pollination: Highly self-fruitful, but another Southern highbush variety with overlapping bloom may improve the crop
  • Soil/Water: Acidic, organic, very well-drained soil; keep evenly moist without waterlogging the roots
  • Landscape Uses: Home orchards, edible landscapes, blueberry gardens, fruiting hedges, and large containers

Best Pollinator Partners:

  • Jewel: One of the best choices from our blueberry selection.
  • Emerald: Another strong choice with a useful opportunity for bloom overlap.
  • Biloxi: A very early Southern highbush option; our Biloxi listing identifies Springhigh as a strong partner.
  • Galaxy: A possible early-blooming partner when its flowers overlap with Springhigh.

An older Springhigh listing also names Pearl, but Pearl may bloom later, so I would choose Jewel or Emerald first rather than depend on Pearl alone. Springhigh can fruit by itself; these partners offer an opportunity for better cross-pollination. Bloom overlap varies with winter and spring weather. Do not rely on rabbiteye blueberries such as Climax, Premier, Brightwell, or Tifblue as Springhigh’s pollinators. advancednurserygrowers.com

North Florida Growing Note: Springhigh’s low chill requirement can cause it to bloom early in the Florida Panhandle. Protect open flowers and young berries when a late freeze is expected. Plant in acidic soil with excellent drainage; a raised bed or large container can help where native soil stays wet. Pick ripe berries regularly, as the fruit may soften in hot weather. advancednurserygrowers.com
