Brighten a shady corner with the bold, tropical-looking foliage of Fatsia japonica, also called Japanese aralia. Its large, deeply lobed, glossy green leaves make a dramatic accent near an entry, patio, or under trees. In fall, upright clusters of creamy white flowers appear, followed by shiny black berries in winter.

Fatsia grows well in North Florida when planted in a sheltered, shady spot with moist soil. It can also be grown in a container indoors or outside.
