While picking blueberries this morningat Advanced Nursery Growers, we spotted this young praying mantisresting nearby.
Praying manties are fascinating garden vistors. They feed on many kinds of insects, including caterpillars, flies, beetles, and grasshoppers. Because of that they can be helpful around gardens, orchards, and berry patches.
They are not very selective hunters, though, so they may also catch beneficial insects from time to time. Even so, seeing one is a good reminder of how much wildlife is living and working around us every day.
Moments like this are one of the things we enjoy most about working outdoors. You never know what you may find while picking fruit or caring for plants.
